In the photographs above, custom Selene 3.0 with Velocite Tenax wheels. The actual bike will vary from the photographs.

Velocite Selene was made to be the best alloy road frame in the world, bar none. It is the first modern alloy frame that was designed to match, or exceed the performance of contemporary carbon fibre frames.

Key Features

  • Two-pass hand welded custom profile, triple butted 7005-T6 alloy, 100% shot-peened after welding.
  • Asymmetric, tapered head tube 1 1/8” top, 1.5” bottom
  • PF30 bottom bracket
  • Allround/Long distance geometry
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Frame weight: 1200g-1450g

Each tube that makes up the Selene is custom shaped and butted in the factory and each tube is custom manipulated for each frame size. The tubes are then two-pass welded by hand to ensure perfect quality and strength.

The oversize head tube ensures that the comparable lack of stiffness of aluminium does not negatively impact the steering precision and confidence when racing at full speed. All tubes are oversized to maximise the frame's torsional stiffness, while the seat stays are relatively thin and very long to allow sufficient vertical compliance for long distance comfort.

The geometry of the Velocite Selene is that of a stage racer. You can stay comfortable in the saddle for many hours, day after day. However due to its stiffness and stability the Selene is also well suited to shorter races and criteriums.

I tested the Selene over a rolling course with smooth roads, rough roads, climbs and descents. I tried to find a weakness and pushed the bike into corners, potholes, hard sprints, seated climbs and came back with nothing but a positive reaction from the bike. So I pushed harder but, never came the point of surrender from the Selene. Sure it’s stiff and light, alloy is good at that but, the comfort is damn good too. Read more...

OS headtube

Our frames take advantage of a tapered head tube with a 1.5" bottom bearing and 1 1/8" top bearing. This is the optimal configuration to achieve the best torsional stiffness at a low weight. The oversize head tube allows larger diameter down tube to be used, while the fork also benefits from the larger fork crown which distributes the stresses over a wider area.

Torsion focus

All Velocite frames lead their product class in terms of torsional stifness as measured at the head tube and the bottom bracket (also known as pedalling stiffness). High torsional stiffness increases the efficiency and handling characteristic of the bike without adversy affecting rider comfort. Specifically, the exceptionally high pedalling stiffness results in immediate response to your every stroke, and instant acceleration.

7005-T6 alloy

Custom triple butted and profiled 7005 T6 tempered aluminium alloy tubing provides the optimal combination of high tensile strength, damage and fatigue failure resistance, and excellent weldability. Mechanical properties of the 7005 alloy allow us to create very torsionally stiff frames at weights approaching those of carbon frames.
